Four Successful Days at Cannex Fillex Asia Pacific 2024

Innovations and Sustainability in Metal Packaging

ACTEGA had a very successful time at Cannex Fillex Asia Pacific in Guangzhou, China, showcasing the latest advancements in metal packaging. The event ran from July 15-19, 2024, and served as the perfect platform for us to display our innovations to a global audience. Attendees experienced firsthand our cutting-edge solutions, focusing on sustainability and high performance.

Below, we provide insights into our product highlights, and you can see more about our presence at the show in an after-movie.

ROTARflow

ACTEGA developed the ROTARflow technology to optimize efficiency and sustainability in the production of can ends. Our digital system transforms the previously manual and analog processes – including process monitoring, adjustment, data processing, and analysis – into a fully automated, digital, and continuous process. ROTARflow monitors the correct amount of water-based sealant in real time and makes adjustments automatically as needed.

Low Cure Coatings

As the transition from solvent-based to more environmentally friendly UV-based coatings poses several challenges for manufacturers, ACTEGA offers an interim solution that increases sustainability and efficiency: low cure coatings for internal aerosol can applications. Compared to the usual 250-270°C, these interior coatings require curing at reduced temperatures of 195-200°C. At the same time, the curing time of the aluminum tubes remains unchanged at 5-6 minutes.

UV DIRECT TO METAL

In collaboration with Brasilata Labs and Plasmatreat GmbH, ACTEGA has developed a process that allows a UV coating to be applied directly to a metal surface pretreated with atmospheric plasma. UV DIRECT TO METAL replaces solvent-based coatings that require gas ovens for curing with more efficient and sustainable UV systems. Only UV lamps are required for curing, reducing CO2 emissions by approximately 40 percent.

SVELON® Low Gauge Compounds

ACTEGA’s low gauge compounds can reduce the thickness of crown corks down to 0.18 mm without compromising performance. With over 300 billion crown corks used worldwide each year, this could save approximately 90,000 metric tons of metal and significantly reduce CO2 emissions. ACTEGA is driving this technology further forward into an Ultra Low Gauge solution to reduce the thickness of crown corks to 0.15 mm.
